The name
Mundilfari named his children Sól and Máni after the Sun and the Moon. I named these apps after the people I love, and gave each one its own part of the sky.
The family
Three apps, one for each part of the sky
-
Helia
The Sun
Finds the clearest moments in thousands of blurry frames of the Sun and combines them into one sharp image.
-
Annora
Planets and the Moon
Follows a planet through thousands of blurred frames and combines the best into one detailed image.
-
Valerian
The deep sky
Combines many exposures of a galaxy or nebula into one finished image, with colours matched to real stars.
Under the bonnet
One shared core
Helia, Annora and Valerian are built on the same core, written in Rust. An improvement to it can help all three apps.
Registration
Lines up every frame, so the Sun, a planet or the stars sit in the same place.
Frame scoring
Ranks sharp frames above blurred ones, so the picture is built from the best.
Stacking
Combines the frames you keep into one image with more detail and less noise.

Take it, read it, build it
The apps are free software under the GNU General Public Licence, with a few additional terms. Every build you download comes with its source code. Installers for Windows and Linux are on 12hobbies.studio, where you choose what to pay and nothing is a fine amount. Why it is free, in plain words.
